Editorial Standards

How HikingCare researches, writes, updates and corrects its guides.

These standards describe how guides on HikingCare are produced, so you know what you are reading and how much weight to give it.

Independence

We do not accept payment for placement, positive coverage or rankings. Brands cannot buy a spot in a guide. Affiliate links (see our affiliate disclosure) are added after the editorial decisions are made and do not influence them.

Accuracy and sourcing

Product details such as weights, capacities and materials are taken from manufacturer specifications and can change between model years — always check the listing before you buy. Safety guidance follows widely accepted hiking practice (for example the ten essentials and standard advice on hydration, layering and turn-around times). We avoid precise claims we cannot support.

What we do and do not claim

Unless a guide explicitly states otherwise, our recommendations are based on research into a product category, not on a hands-on test of the specific item. We do not invent test results, mileage, awards or reviewer credentials. Where we give typical ranges (pack weights, volumes, water needs), they are general guidance, not measurements of a particular product.

Updates

Guides show a published date and, when materially revised, an updated date. We review evergreen guides periodically and when products or advice change. Reading-time estimates are calculated automatically.

Corrections

If you find a factual error, tell us through the contact page. We correct mistakes promptly and note significant changes in the guide.

Safety first

Hiking carries real risk. Our content is educational and cannot account for your fitness, experience, or the conditions on a given day. Read our outdoor safety disclaimer, check local advice and know your limits.
