This policy explains what information HikingCare (“we”, “us”) collects when you use this website, how we use it and the choices you have.

Information we collect

• Server logs. Like most websites, our hosting provider records basic technical information such as IP address, browser type, pages requested and timestamps. This is used for security and to keep the site running.
• Analytics. We may use Google Analytics (via the Site Kit plugin) to understand which guides are read and how visitors find the site. Analytics data is aggregated and does not identify you personally to us. You can opt out with the Google Analytics browser add-on or by blocking analytics cookies.
• Newsletter sign-ups. If you subscribe, we store the email address you enter so we can send you the newsletter. We do not sell or rent it. You can unsubscribe at any time using the link in any email or by contacting us.
• Tool data. Our hiking calculators and planners save your inputs in your own browser’s local storage so you can return to them. That data stays on your device and is not sent to us.
• Messages you send us. If you contact us, we keep your message for as long as needed to respond.

We use only the cookies needed for the site to function, plus analytics cookies if analytics is enabled. Details are in our cookie policy.

Affiliate links and third parties

Some links lead to retailers such as Amazon. Those sites have their own privacy policies, and they may set cookies to attribute a purchase to HikingCare. We do not receive personal details about your purchases.

How long we keep information

Newsletter addresses are kept until you unsubscribe. Server logs and analytics data are retained for the periods set by our hosting and analytics providers.

Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct or delete personal information we hold about you, or to object to certain processing. To make a request, use the contact page.

Children

This site is not directed at children under 16 and we do not knowingly collect their personal information.
